How to apply the gold foil onto your piece?
Keum-Boo is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply a thin layer of pure gold to silver. Heat and pressure create a diffusion bond between the two metals.
Process: 1. Preparation: The silver surface is cleaned and slightly roughened. 2. Heating: The silver is heated to around 300–500°C. 3. Applying the Gold: A thin gold foil is placed onto the heated silver. 4. Bonding: The gold is pressed and burnished with a steel or agate tool, fusing it permanently to the silver.
The result is a durable, bright gold layer without the need for chemical plating. ✨
